CommPower has specialized in development of software products for secure messaging, primarily for military applications. The company has gained unique expertise in solving the problems associated with interoperability between modern e-mail based networks and legacy record-based message switching infrastructures.

The Multi-Function Gateway (MFG) offers secure and transparent messaging between disparate communities, including DMS & NATO ACP123/STANAG-4406 based networks, AUTODIN (JANAP128 over Mode I and Mode II), NICS-TARE (ACP127 over EDC and Async) and Internet (SMTP-MIME). The MFG accepts, validates, and processes the various message formats and, based upon the input message format and addressing information, automatically performs all necessary archival, security processing, format conversions, event logging, and forwarding functions.

CommPower’s Mail List Agent (MLA) is a secure, mass-distribution X.400 messaging product that allows users to transmit messages to multiple recipients quickly, easily, and reliably. For each individual recipient, the MLA generates a private security token thus ensuring that only authorized list members can decrypt and read the message. In addition, the MLA preserves the originator’s digital signature in support of non-repudiation and message integrity. For NATO applications, the product will soon support S/MIME-V3 ESS (as opposed to the DMS MSP/ACP120 security policy).

Other key MFG and MLA functions include X.500 directory access via 93 DS/DAP and remote service management and control via SNMP. The MFG and MLA products are available on various standard UNIX and NT platforms, and they include an embedded B2-type data labeling and exchange mechanism known as the Secure Network Queue Manager (SNQM) to provide true multi-level security/sensitivity processing. Both products have been brought through Defense Message System (DMS) Certification Testing (first time, 3rd quarter 97).

Ongoing enhancements to both products include the NATO standard PCT security protocol, S/MIME V.3 security, and intelligent routing via message profiling. These new capabilities will be available in 2001/2002, together with XML I/O capabilities for the MFG.

As a key team member to Lockheed Martin on the DMS program with DISA, CommPower provides the Multi-Function Interpreter (MFI: Domestic version of the MFG) and the Mail List Agent (MLA) as two fully Defense Message System (DMS) certified specialty products. More than 210 MFI licenses and approximately 750 MLA licenses have been delivered as of July 2001.

The Multi-Function Gateway (MFG) product constitutes the equivalent export version of the MFI and is sold to our NATO allies in the U.K., Denmark, Germany, Holland, Austria, Italy, Spain, Turkey, and Canada, and to Saudi Arabia.

CommPower’s MFI and MLA are the only products of their kind upgraded to true multi-level-secure operations via ACP120 (referred to as DMS release 3.0). Both are currently in DISA/JITC certification and scheduled for release mid 2001. This major upgrade of the present DMS baseline parallels the ongoing S/MIME V.3 security initiative in the commercial sector and makes future transition a natural evolution.

As a newcomer to the DMS product suite, CommPower offers its CP-XI (CommPower XML Interface) product that serves as a generic DMS interface for external applications not capable of processing DMS formatted messages. The CP-XI connects directly to the DMS backbone and receives DMS messages on behalf of a designated community. For each message received, the CP-XI performs all Fortezza processing in a compliant/certified manner and translates the DMS message to the XML (Extensible Markup Language) format for viewing by a commercial web browser. In addition, the CP-XI will relay a copy of the DMS message to a backside UA in one of 4 configurable formats (none, P772-clear, signed only, signed/encrypted). As with the MFI and MLA products, the CP-XI will transition to support ACP120.

In addition to being a COTS software product supplier to prime contractors such as Lockheed Martin for DMS, CommPower also undertakes turnkey system deliveries of secure message gateway systems, including implementation of customized functionality, customer-unique acceptance testing, site installation, cutover, training, and follow-on support. Overseas customers and prime contractors such as British Telecom Syntegra, British Aerospace, Marconi Communications, EDS-UK, and Siemens are supported by our technical support office in Dublin, Ireland.
